What Are You Breathing? Common Household Allergens In Your Air
When you stop to think about the air in your home, you probably think it is safe to breathe, right? The air inside your home can be filled with many allergens, which can get you sick and cause you to experience hay fever. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, as many as 60 million people have allergies and asthma, which translates to roughly one out of every five people. Many allergy symptoms occur even indoors due to environmental pollutants and triggers in the air. If you suffer from asthma or allergies, it is a good idea to learn more about what is floating around in the air inside of your home.
Pet Dander
Even though you may not realize it, pet dander may be the reason why you have itchy, watery, runny eyes. The dander from your pets is flying throughout the air and transported throughout your home on a regular basis. Whether your furry friend has an itch or is just lounging, the dander can be everywhere.
Dust Mites
Dust mites are found in every household, and they feed on dust. These mites can cause allergies in humans to flare up, and they are often the most common reasons why people have allergies in their home.
Cockroaches
You may squirm when you hear the word, but it is not uncommon for you to be allergic to cockroaches. If you are allergic, you are going to experience allergy symptoms because their essence is floating around your home.
The feces from roaches can cause a flare up of allergies and exacerbate any existing conditions you may have. The droppings can be found almost anywhere, so it is important to keep an eye out for them and clean them up when you notice them. The last thing you want is cockroach fecal matter floating around your home.
Mold
Mold thrives in moist environments where the humidity is just right. Water damage, leaking faucets, and humid basements are all great sources for mold. When mold multiplies and the spores are released into the air, you may experience allergy symptoms including itchy or watery eyes, wheezing, and more. Mold can be extremely dangerous in high levels and depending on the type of mold present.
The above common household allergens are found in just about every home. To limit your exposure, use an air filter and vacuum on a regular basis to get rid of mites and roach droppings. For more information, contact Weather Control Air Conditioning, Inc. or a similar company.
