3 Signs Your Furnace Needs A Checkup

As soon as the cold weather hits, having a fully functioning furnace becomes top priority. However, because your furnace likely hasn't been turned on for quite some time, you may be unsure of how it is going to function for you when you do actually turn it on. Luckily, there are certain signs that you can look for that may indicate that your furnace is in need of a repair. Here are three signs to watch out for.

Loud Or Unusual Noises

If you turn your furnace on only to realize that it is making all sorts of loud noises, then this could be the sign of a bigger problem. The sound may originate from a part within the furnace that is loose, or it may be coming from rust or other particles that have built up within the furnace. A great solution to this problem is to hire an HVAC contractor to come out and inspect your furnace for you. They will be able to safely and accurately tell you what has gone wrong so that you can get your furnace up and running as it should.

Temperature Output Isn't Consistent

If you set your thermostat to a certain temperature, but notice that your furnace can't seem to keep this temperature consistently, this may be another sign your furnace needs a checkup. This type of issue could be caused by anything from a dirty or clogged filter, to a faulty pilot light, or even issues with your duct system. Again, an HVAC contractor is the person to call in this type of situation because they can let you know if the inconsistent temperature is being caused by one or more issues and the cost and work needed to fix the problem.

Your Bill Is Much Higher Than Usual

If you run your furnace for the first cold month of the season and realize that your heating bill has skyrocketed from the last month that you had it on, this is a sure sign that something is wrong with your furnace. One reason why this may be happening is simply because your furnace is very old, and has to work harder and harder to heat your home. The best solution would likely be to contact HVAC services to make sure that this is in fact the problem, and then have them help you to find a new furnace that meets your heating needs.
